Borders.GIFBorders cut 45 employees yesterday, numerous outlets have reported. According to the Detroit Free Press, 40 employees were cut at the bookseller’s Ann Arbor headquarters and five employees were cut at distribution centers.

Borders spokeswoman Mary C. Davis had this statement in the article: “This decision is a result of Borders’ focus on reducing costs and readjusting its business model to improve profitability and cash flow.”

Last week graphic novel source Diamond Book Distributors stopped sending book shipments to Borders and the struggling bookseller decided to close a Tennessee distribution center in July–cutting more than 300 employees.
