On the heels of news that Borders delayed payments to a number of vendors, landlords and other groups last month, two major outlets predicted that the bookseller will file for bankruptcy this month.
Bloomberg News reported yesterday that Borders could file for bankruptcy “as soon as next week.” The Wall Street Journal played more cautious rumors, speculating the filing could happen “closer to the end of February.”
While Borders did not respond to these accounts, store closures were also predicted. Bloomberg estimated “at least 150 stores” could be closed in bankruptcy, while WSJ predicted “between 150 and 200 stores.”
