Books on Bikes Featured On Kickstarter

By Maryann Yin

A group of school librarians and teachers from Charlottesville City hope to raise $5,000 for their literacy program, Books on Bikes.

Last summer, the organizers launched this initiative by partnering with the Jefferson Madison Regional Library and delivering books to students within the community. Every week, students received one to three books to read. We’ve embedded a video about the project above. Here’s more from the Kickstarter page:

“The positive impact of the Books on Bikes program was felt each week when we returned to the neighborhoods. Students told us about the books they had received the previous week, looked for similar titles, or for titles that their friends were reading. This year we would like to visit more Charlottesville neighborhoods and deliver more books.”
