Book Trailers: So Easy a 16-Year-Old Can Make ‘Em

You might recall a GalleyCat item from July about authors outsourcing promotional work to their fans, which focused on the book trailer contest Lynn Messina ran for her YA novel, Sassy Girl, with contestants encouraged to adapt a scene from the opening chapter or produce original messages “that empower teen girls to have faith in their own potential and self-worth.” A winner has been declared: High school senior Patricia Sta. Maria Baron, a former intern at Candy magazine, was awarded the grand prize of a 60 GB Panasonic SDR-H60 hard-drive camcorder; she says she’s now considering filmmaking as a career.

“I think Baron’s video captured the story of Savvy Girl and showed great creativity, well-executed editing and artistic flair,” commented soap opera actress Bonnie Dennison, one of the panel of celebrity judges who evaluated the 15 entries. There is still a competition for the “fan favorite” video; at the end of the month, the top vote-getter will receive a $50 iTunes gift certificate.
