Book Sculptures by Guy Laramee

Guy_Laramee_Biblios_10714_375Artist Guy Laramee repurposes old books to build sculptures of nature scenes.

“I carve landscapes out of books,” he says in his artist’s statement. “Mountains of disused knowledge return to what they really are: mountains. Piles of obsolete encyclopedias return to that which does not need to say anything, that which simply is.”

Laramee’s work is currently on display at the Foster White Gallery in Seattle.

Laramee is one of many artists who use old books to create artworks. Brian Dettmer, Julia Strand and Mike Stillkey also work with old books in their creations.
