Book Depot Aims to Revolutionize Returns Process

By Dianna Dilworth

Canada bargain book wholesaler Book Depot is hoping to make the process of book returns easier for publishers and retailers alike using technology.

The company is forgoing the manual labor involved in sorting books that arrive in its warehouse and has invested $3 million in a large-scale mechanical sorter, robotics and supporting technologies that can sort at record speed. The company estimates that the new tools will transform its process and will allow it to sort 100,000 books a day. The new system will be live by May 24, 2016.

Publishers will be able to outsource their returns to Book Depot’s processing center.
