Bloomsbury Goes Digital

Reuters reports on Bloomsbury‘s latest initiative, as the publisher announced yesterday it had begun working with digital book company LibreDigital to let readers search and preview book content via the Web. The publisher said its “Look Inside” online service mirrors the experience of reading a printed book and would help booksellers promote titles on their own Web sites without jeopardizing an author’s copyright.

The new service has been launched on the Web sites of various Bloomsbury divisions and would be available for booksellers in the coming months, the two companies said. “Working with LibreDigital, we can bring book content online in a manner that provides substantial benefits to all of the parties involved, including readers, authors and booksellers,” said Stephanie Duncan, Bloomsbury’s Digital Media Director. “In the end, our ability to bring all of our book content into the digital age will greatly expand how readers consume their favorite books and interact with other fans, thereby benefiting the book industry as a whole.”
