Best Man’s Almanac: Kickstarter Publishing Project of the Week

By Jason Boog

Best man and author Jonathan Bender hopes to save 1,000 weddings with his new publishing Kickstarter project, The Best Man’s Almanac. If he reaches his funding goal, he will self-publish a handbook and website to help best men lead the best weddings (his video is embedded above).

Welcome to our Kickstarter Publishing Project of the Week, a feature exploring how authors and publishers are using the fundraising site to raise money for book projects. If you want to start your own project, check out How To Use Kickstarter to Fund Your Publishing Project.

Here’s more about the project: “This work is the happy result of a career spent writing for Hooters Magazine and Bust Magazine, which despite their similar nomenclature, have radically different editorial missions. Yet, it is not written at the expense of women or from a crude male perspective. I want to speak intelligently to men about what it means to be a best man. The project you’re funding is a self-published book that would act as a guidebook for men looking to do right by their best friends. It would be a slim, black-covered handbook — the size of a jacket pocket. I intend to self-publish 1,000 copies (and launch a companion website) in order to save 1,000 weddings.”
