French author Bernard-Henri Levy defended the reputation of IMF director Dominique Strauss-Kahn against allegations of sexual assault in a new essay.
In a passionate column at The Daily Beast, Levy said the banker “has been my friend for 20 years” and blasted the New York City press for its coverage of the sensational story. Most recently, Levy published Left in Dark Times: A Stand Against the New Barbarism.
Here’s an excerpt from the essay: “I am troubled by a system of justice modestly termed ‘accusatory,’ meaning that anyone can come along and accuse another fellow of any crime—and it will be up to the accused to prove that the accusation is false and without basis in fact. I resent the New York tabloid press, a disgrace to the profession, that, without the least precaution and before having effected the least verification, has depicted Dominique Strauss-Kahn as a sicko, a pervert, borderlining on serial killer, a psychiatrist’s dream.”
