AvantGuild: Will Leitch Has No Time for Writer’s Block

By Neal

will-leitch-headshot.jpgmediabistro.com’s Noah Davis recently talked with Deadspin blogger Will Leitch about how he wrote his latest book, God Save the Fan, around his day job:

“One of the nice things things about Deadspin is that because it spawned its own culture of sports blogs, my job is essentially to write about my mail… I dig through everything, figure out what I’m going to do and plan out my day and write like crazy, until the late afternoon. Then I would go to the gym… come back, shower and straighten up. Then I would check and make sure [Roger] Clemens hadn’t shot somebody, or there was no breaking Deadspin stuff, and then I would write the book.”

That took him just five months, on a separate computer that isn’t connected to the Internet and only runs Word (and Minesweeper). As he says, “Writer’s block is for people who don’t have anybody waiting for what they are going to say or waiting for you to post something.”
