Authors Plan Eight New Bernard Madoff Books

catastrophe.jpgEven as angry New Yorkers urge the troubled investor to commit suicide, Bernard Madoff has launched at least eight different serious book proposals about his alleged $50 billion fraud.

Financial reporter Erin Arvedlund just scored the latest Madoff deal, the NY Observer reports. Editor Adrian Zackheim from Penguin’s Portfolio imprint just bought her book. The article counts seven more books, with Phoenix Books leading the pack–rushing out Catastrophe: The Story of Bernard L. Madoff, The Man Who Swindled the World by Deborah and Gerald Strober this March.

While a few of the books were still on submission, the article added more deals to the crowded field: “Two authors who will definitely be gunning against Ms. Arvedlund are former NY1 reporter Andrew Kirtzman, who is writing a Madoff book for Claire Wachtel at HarperCollins, and magazine journalist Richard Behar, who is writing one for Random House.” (Via Edward Champion.)
