Arthur Phillips Reads with Music

By Jason Boog

A standing room only crowd celebrated the release of Arthur Phillips’ new novel, “The Song Is You” at the recently expanded Bookcourt store in Brooklyn.

GalleyCat captured the proceedings in this video. Musician Jonathan Spottiswoode joined the reading, playing quietly as Phillips read an excerpt about a soldier in love with Billie Holiday. If you want more literary tunes, Largehearted Boy has an interview about Phillips’ favorite music.

Here’s more from the author’s biography: “Arthur Phillips was born in Minneapolis in 1969 and educated at Harvard. He has been a child actor, a jazz musician, a speechwriter, a dismally failed entrepreneur, and a five-time Jeopardy! champion.”
