Andrew Goldman Suspended For Four Weeks Over Twitter Remarks

By Jason Boog

Writer Andrew Goldman has been suspended for four weeks at The New York Times Magazine following comments he made to novelist Jennifer Weiner. The paper has issued more specific guidelines for using social media.

You can read our complete story about the controversial Twitter exchange here. Goldman has since apologized to Weiner and his account has been removed from Twitter. Times public editor Margaret Sullivan wrote about Goldman’s Twitter comments last week, citing our Storify record and literary blogger Edward Champion‘s coverage of the incident.

Jennifer Weiner added a four-point response on Twitter. She began: “It was not anything I asked for. His apology seemed sincere. I would’ve been happy to let it end there.” We’ve embedded her complete response below…

Times Magazine editor Hugo Lindgren had this comment: “In light of his recent comments on Twitter, Andrew will not be contributing the Talk column to the Magazine for four weeks, beginning Oct. 28. He’ll be back with the column after that.”

Editor’s Note: This post has been updated to include Champion’s role in the story.
