As writers and publicists struggle to find review outlets in a rapidly changing media environment, one books editor has kept his virtual door open for pitches.
Today’s guest on the Morning Media Menu (MP3 link) was Andrew Foster Altschul, the books editor at The Rumpus. Altschul told writers how to pitch the literary website and introduced his new novel, Deus Ex Machina–a surreal trip through a demented reality television show.
Here’s an excerpt from the interview: “You can send me an email at books [at] therumpus [dot] net. I get emails from publicists, editors, and authors all the time. Most of the time we say ‘yes, we’re going to look for a reviewer for the book.’ We put it out there and hopefully a reviewer will be interested in writing about your book. That’s the best way to get in touch.”
