Amazon’s CreateSpace Updates Royalty Payment Terms

Amazon’s CreateSpace self-publishing platform has updated its royalty payment terms for members that are paid through checks. According to the new terms, authors that use the service will have to earn a minimum of $100/£100/€100 to have a check cut.

CreateSpace explained in an email: “In June, the check minimum payment amount will increase to $100/£100/€100 (previously $28). If you continue with royalty payments made by check and sent to the U.S., U.K., Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, or the Netherlands, then a check handling fee of $8/£8/€8 will apply per payment.  These new payment terms will be effective for payments made in June 2012, for royalties previously earned.”

CreateSpace seems to be pushing its direct deposit payment service, because they will make bank transfers for royalties as low as $10/£10/€10. What do you think?
