Amazon to Open a Bookstore in Chicago

By Maryann Yin

amazon304Amazon executives plan to open a brick-and-mortar bookstore in Chicago, IL. The Chicago Tribune reports that the newest location of Amazon Books will be installed in the Lakeview neighborhood.

The first Amazon bookshop opened in Seattle in late 2015. In addition to Chicago, the online retail giant intends to set up additional stores in San Diego, CA and Tigard, OR. Amazon hopes to have the Chicago launch date take place in 2017.

Here’s more from Fortune Magazine: “It’s not a typical bookstore. The company uses data from its website, such as customer ratings, sales totals, and Goodread popularity ratings, to decide what books to stock on shelves, and it consults human book experts to curate the selection. The stores present books in a more eye-catching fashion with the covers facing out—versus being stacked spine-out—and present information about each book’s Amazon.com rating and an actual customer review. Customers can also demo Amazon devices such as the Kindle and Echo in stores.” (via Mashable)
