Amazon Dodges Apple Rules With Kindle Cloud Reader

By Dianna Dilworth

Ever since Apple changed its in-app rules, booksellers have been trying to come up with new ways to sell eBooks on iPads and iPhones without having to pay Apple 30 percent of their sale.

Currently, if you want to purchase eBooks from retailers like Google and Barnes & Noble to read on your iPhone or iPad, you now have to do so using a webpage on the device.

Kobo announced that it is working on an HTML 5 app, which would work on a web browser and now Amazon has a similar solution. Today, the online giant introduced the Kindle Cloud Reader, a new cloud-based application that lets readers use a web brower as a Kindle reader. It was designed so that users can have an app-like reading experience directly from a web page. Also, it does not require the user to be online to read.
