Amazon has revealed the eighth generation Kindle: the Kindle Oasis.
The new device comes with a dual-battery system. The device itself has a long charging cover that includes “months of battery life.” Once the cover is on, the device automatically begins recharging. In addition, there is a new hibernation mode that minimizes power consumption when the Kindle is inactive.
The Kindle Oasis is lighter and thinner than previous models: it weighs 4.6 ounces, is 3.4 mm at its thinnest point. To make such a small device, the e-reader is made from a featherweight polymer frame that is plated with metal.
The device is available for pre-order today for $289.99. It will start shipping in the coming weeks.
