All They Need Now Is PowerPoint

If you were wondering what ever happened with that case in Missouri where the townspeople wanted to ban “pornographic” comics from their public library…after deciding to come up with formal guidelines back in October, the Marshall Public Library’s “material selections policy” committee met last week to brainstorm some ideas. “The committee had agreed to read the material selection policies of a number of libraries from around the state and the country and to take note of things in them that could be included in the new policy,” reports Zach Sims of the Marshall Democrat-News. “A task force made up of three of the committee members, Anita Wright, Jeanne Simonton and Priscilla McReynolds… will meet and condense the ideas discussed into a written document to bring back to the assembled committee to again discuss.” That meeting is scheduled for Thursday night; as previously noted, the books that prompted the debate—Fun Home by Alison Bechdel and Blankets by Craig Thompson—will remain off the shelves until the library decides whether to put them back into circulation or keep them out.
