George Harrison Book Coming from Abrams

George Harrison‘s widow, Olivia Harrison, has landed a deal for an illustrated book about the life of the Beatles’ guitarist. Abrams will publish the book, Living in the Material World: George Harrison.

Harrison’s 1973 solo album inspired the biographical photo book and a forthcoming documentary directed by Martin Scorsese. Both book and film will be released in the fall.

Wylie Agency founder Andrew Wylie negotiated the deal with editor-in-chief Eric Himmel. Olivia will create the book and Mark Holborn will edit it; Scorsese will contribute the forward and Paul Theroux will write an introduction. The video embedded above features a clip of Harrison and The Beatles performing “I Want to Hold Your Hand.”

Here’s more from the press release: “Living in the Material World draws on Harrison’s personal archive of never-before-seen photographs, letters, diaries, and memorabilia to reveal the full arc of his life, including his guitar-obsessed boyhood in Liverpool, the astonishment of the Beatles years—illustrated with George’s own photographs—and his days as a solo musician and bohemian country squire…The book will be filled with reminiscences from Harrison’s friends, among them Eric Clapton, Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and George’s family.”
