A Bicycle Tour Memoir on Kickstarter

By Maryann Yin

bikeScientist David Kroodsma hopes to raise $10,000 on Kickstarter for his memoir, The Bicycle Diaries: My 21,000-Mile Ride for the Climate. Kroodsma (pictured, via) will use the funds to cover the cost of hiring editing, designing, and self-publishing.

This book chronicles Kroodsma’s adventures on a bicycle tour across two continents. Throughout his journey Kroodsma gave talks and presentations on climate change. Here’s more from the Kickstarter page:

“This book incorporates climate change in three ways. First, having an outreach project created a unique journey, as I sought out interesting people and had far more meaningful interactions than if I were merely biking without a project. Second, I studied how the places I visited could be affected by climate change, and the full-sensory experience of biking through them provided a firsthand and personal account of what is at risk. And third, such a trip changed the way I see this global issue, and the book shares this new perspective.”
