WNYW Anchor Greg Kelly Leaves Desk for Titanic Anniversary Story

WNYW/Channel 5 Good Day New York co-anchor Greg Kelly made the rare trip from behind the desk to reporter.

Kelly’s motivation was the 100th anniversary of Titanic’s sinking, which occurred April 15, 1912. While we’ve read and watched numerous stories leading up to tragedy at sea, Kelly found an uncommon New York nugget.

Lost in the cruise liner calamity is the fact that the Titanic was destined for the now-defunct Chelsea Piers. Then Kelly uncovered a gem, Titanic owner, White Star Line, still visible in the pier’s iron gate.

In the piece that aired last night for the solemn centennial anniversary, a subdued Kelly showed the Titanic Memorial on South Street, dedicated a year after the ill-fated cruise.
