What Is It With Journalists & The Wire?

The new season of The Wire is here and with it, the inevitable media blitz of commentators rushing in to talk about what’s possibly the best show in television. Given that this season takes place in the newsroom of a fictionalized Baltimore Sun, well… it just sweetens the pot for journos even more.

In the Columbia Journalism Review, Lawrence Lanahan examines what the show reveals about urban journalism:

Baltimore cannot be replicated: the liberating weirdness, the lunch-pail ethic of the Colts and Cal Ripken, the peculiar conversations of hundreds of barfly-savants, the seafood, the accents… It’s a lovable city.
