Weekly Jobless Claims Up 31,000

Weekly initial jobless claims rose 31,000 to 473,000 the week ended February 13, the Department of Labor Statistics reported today.

The four-week average dropped to 467,500, a decrease of 1,500 from last week’s revised average of 469,000.

As of January 30, there were nearly 6 million people claiming emergency extended unemployment benefits, the program that extended unemployment benefits for those who had exhausted their regular benefits. This was an increase of 300,000 from the week before.
