WABC/Channel 7 declared themselves the winner, day to night, in the just concluded May Sweeps period. But, WCBS/Channel 2 saw nice personal improvements since May 2010.
The 11 p.m. newscast with Maurice DuBois and Kristine Johnson finished second in New York with an average of 427,000 viewers, a three percent jump from last May and the station’s biggest late news audience in a May Sweeps in three years. (Chris Wragge co-anchored the late news with Johnson until the end of 2010.)
Additionally, Channel 2 had the only 11 p.m. newscast that delivered year-to-year growth in the key Adults 25 to 54 demographic (1.7/5 – up five percent) as well as Adults 18-49 (1.2/4 – up nine percent).
Early morning, WCBS also notched a second-place showing in the weekday 4:30 a.m. newscast anchored by Rob Morrison and Mary Calvi. The station scored a three percent jump at 5 a.m. and a dramatic 16 percent leap at 6 a.m.
The weekday edition of the 5 p.m. newscast ranked second in viewers and key demographics – with a 60 percent advantage over third place in adults 25-54 and a 67 percent margin in women 25-54 (up 25 percent).
Lastly, at 6 p.m. with Don Dahler and Dana Tyler, WCBS delivered impressive year-to-year May gains in Adults 25 to 54 (up 17 percent) and Women 25 to 54 (up 60 percent).
