Waterford Wedgwood Shattered by Bankruptcy

It’s a good thing that Miroslav Havel, longtime chief designer of Waterford Crystal, didn’t live to see this. Dublin-based Waterford Wedgwood has collapsed into receivership after it was unable to repay loans or raise the millions of new capital it needed to survive. Shares in the 250-old china and glassware manufacturer—whose brands include Waterford Crystal, Wedgwood, Rosenthal, and Royal Doulton—have been suspended from trading on the Irish Stock Exchange, and many of its subsidiaries are expected to go into administration later today.
