Was HBO's Seinfeld Tribute An April Fool's Joke?

Apparently not, even though the event, which featured Jerry, Chris Rock, Robert Klein and Garry Shandling in a panel discussion/roast moderated by Anderson Cooper, was filmed almost 18 months ago.

Nancy Geller, the network’s senior VP, original programming, wasn’t available to comment, but she told the Post there was “no thought of putting this on HBO.” Which, of course, begs the question as to why it was being filmed in the first place?

As Seinfeld himself noted during the special: “Your whole career as a comedian is about making fun of pretentious, high-minded, congratulatory, b.s.
