The Village Voice's New Film Critic Is a Woman

Melissa Anderson rejoined the paper Nov. 30.

MelissaAndersonHeadshotWhy is the gender of this recent full-time hire news? Because the addition was finalized in-between Meryl Streep decrying at a press conference in London the “infuriating” lack of female film critics and the publication in December of a pair of highly discussed related essays in The Atlantic and Variety.

The Village Voice welcomed back Melissa Anderson to the fold as senior film critic right after the Thanksgiving holiday. As is the wont of many media outlets, the alt-weekly decided to wait until the new year to officially announce the news:

Anderson first began writing for the Voice in 2000.
