Twitter CEO Steps Down, But Stays At Company

Evan Williams announced today via the Twitter blog that he is stepping down as CEO after 2 years at the helm. His new title will simply be co-founder, and he’ll be focusing on product strategy.

Williams has replaced himself with Twitter COO Dick Costolo. Says Williams:

When I insisted on bringing Dick into the COO role a year ago, I got a lot of questions from my board. But I knew Dick would be a strong complement to me, and this has proven to be the case.
