Ever wondered what it’s like to work for, say, Tumblr, Gawker, Elle or the MoMA? When you’re not wondering what it’s like working for mediabistro, of course.

Time Out New York took a look behind the scenes at some of New York City’s most interesting places to work (according to some) and offers some advice on how to break into such jobs yourself without resorting to blackmail.

At Tumblr, which is planning on hiring new staffers later this year, keeps an office with “no desk phones and minimal IMing” and has a communal lunch hour where employees, including founder David Karp and president John Maloney, compare flannel shirts and floppy haircuts in slow motion while some song from The National plays.
