All sorts of good things are happening at TheWrap this first week of September. On Tuesday, the Hollywood industry-focused outlet launched a complete overhaul of its website, an iteration being referred to as 3.0. In addition, a pair of recent Columbia journalism school grads who had been interning over the summer have both been promoted to full-time status.
TV reporter Tony Maglio, who graduated from Columbia this spring, started in a full-time capacity on Tuesday. He holds an MBA and B.S. in Business Management and Marketing from Monmouth University, and in fact was working in accounting and finance before he decided to make the transition via Columbia to reporting.
“I cannot believe I actually get to write about television for a living,” Maglio tells FishbowlNY. “And I could not have hand-picked a better place to officially kick off my journalism career than TheWrap!”
Joining him next Monday in a full-time capacity will be Sara Morrison, Class of 2012. Morrison is currently back in New York and – per TheWrap executive editor Joseph Kapsch – may well eventually wind up based there some day for the site. But for now, she will soon be heading back to the west coast. Morrison was previously with the Columbia Journalism Review.
“I love the media beat and I’m really excited to continue covering it alongside TheWrap’s dedicated and talented journalists,” Morrison tells us. “And on our beautiful new site! I am geekishly thrilled about the responsive design.”
Maglio and Morrison are one of a number of correlated duos at TheWrap. Others include managing editor Josh Dickey and film reporter Jeff Sneider, who previously kept Tinseltown watch at Variety; vice president, entertainment sales Caren Gibbens and director of sales Nicole Winters, both LA Times alums; and Kapsch and senior TV writer Jethro Nededog, who have previously worked together at Zap2it, The Hollywood Reporter and Celebuzz.
