Another day, another survey.
According to a survey conducted by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, 69 percent of job seekers over the age of 50 indicated there’s a lack of jobs.
Plus, 63 percent indicated it’s challenging to find jobs that pay enough and 53 percent reported it’s hard finding jobs with sufficient benefits. As for feeling overqualified, 32 percent were actually told they have too many qualifications.
Let’s not be all doom and gloom on a Friday though. There is some good news! Despite 50+ job seekers being told by potential employers that they’re concerned about their age, many job hunters reported their experience and skills are in demand.
Within the past five years, 43 percent of this population who looked for a job experienced high demand for their skills and 31 percent mentioned the same findings as it related to their experience.
As for other results, nearly half of survey participants want to delay retirement. We can’t say that’s quite shocking to hear but they revealed they plan on staying in the workforce longer than they planned a few years ago.
In fact, 20 percent of the group said they plan to retire when they’re 70; this is in comparison to 11 percent of respondents who mentioned they wanted to retire at 70 when they turned 40.
