OK. So the sun done already set, like, an hour ago but we were busy in our lab, trying to unlock the chemical mysteries of Perez Hilton's hair and totally lost track of time. So here it is, kids, the week that was, and the weekend that will be: Haters: Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez apparently has made her share of enemies around these parts. Including a blogger with a lot of time on his/her hands. Cheese: Independent curator Colin Westerbeck will give a free lecture at LACMA on Saturday about self-portraiture, in honor of the museum's exhibition Masquerade: Role Playing in Self-Portraiture-Photographs from the Audrey and Sydney Irmas Collection. No word yet whether Westerbeck plans to discuss night vision videography, but if so, this could be the place to be for key celebrity sightings. Facelift: The redesign bug has hit the LAT's Sunday Calendar section which will debut its purdy new look this weekend. According to an internal memo, readers will get expanded coverage and new content about stuff on the web. Stuff on the web? Like us? We're flattered. Thanks, LAT! Here's what the memo had to say: This weekend, Sunday Calendar gets a new look and some fresh features designed to make it livelier, more useful and easier to navigate. The first section will focus on movies, television and style, including expanded party coverage and new content about entertainment on the Web. Part II has been renamed Arts & Music to better reflect its contents: coverage of the fine arts, theater, classical and pop music, along with enhanced coverage of books and ideas. Both sections will continue to run in-depth profiles, thoughtful analysis and compelling photography. But the entertainment and arts staffs also have come up with an array of new, shorter features to enliven the inside of the sections and better reflect what's fresh and worth noting in all the areas we cover. These include: * The Party Page - A full, photo-filled page each week devoted to social and charitable events in Hollywood and throughout Southern California. * The Smart List - A quick guide to the coming week in popular culture. * The Web, etc. - Weekly dispatches on discoveries, people and trends in online entertainment. * The Performance - A closer look at a notable acting turn, cameo or role of a lifetime. * The Monitor - A weekly report on TV the way people actually watch it - episodes, characters, plotlines and attitude. * Drive-By - A passing look at the urban landscape. * Heard on the Blogs - Listening in to the online conversation about music and the arts. These changes reflect our commitment to Sunday Calendar and to its continued evolution as a vital and singular entertainment and arts publication. We hope you enjoy the new sections.
