New York Daily News reporter Thomas Tracy has shared a  gut-wrenching item . One that happily ends in a very different way than many of those horrifying accounts of Facebook bullying.

PortAuthorityLogoAfter an unidentified 18-year-old New Jersey college student posted a picture on Facebook of the George Washington Bridge and the status “I’m thinking of jumping,” the scary info was relayed by a Facebook friend to authorities. Here’s what miraculously happened next after Paterson, NJ law enforcement officials passed on the information to the Port Authority Police Department:

Lieutenant Thomas Michaels distributed a photo of the college student to his officers and also left a message on the teen’s Facebook page encouraging him to call him. Within a few hours, the teen reached out, Michaels said.

Michaels says this is the first time his group has used social media to successfully connect with someone in a suicidal situation. When he connected with the young man (who we’re assuming saw accessed the Facebook message on his Smartphone), the student was riding a bus headed to the George Washington Bridge.
