SPJ Conference Numbers Are In: No Change From Last Year
Six hundred and forty nine journalists attended the SPJ conference in Indianapolis last weekend, basically no change from the 2008 attendance total of 646.
Though almost a thousand journalists made it in 07, we do have to speculate that no decrease in journo-attendance this year is good news for the industry.
We use association membership and conference attendance as a very rough, mostly unscientific gauge of an industry, so the idea that no fewer journalists made it to the conference implies that news organizations may have cut as deep as they can go.
