“The NYDP doesn’t have an official policy on this kind of [citizen supherhero] activity…” That wonderful line comes from Sky News New York correspondent Hannah Thomas-Peter’s weekend report about members of Real-Life Superheroes, a group of NYC do-gooders who patrol the streets at night to break up bar fights, rescue abandoned animals and offer support to those recovering from substance abuse problems.
Thomas-Peter met with The Prowler (Nicole Abramovici), The Dark Guardian (Chris Pollak, pictured) and Life (Chaim Lazaros):
Lazaros tours New York’s addiction centers and homeless shelters. He said: “The idea of the superhero allows me to explain very simply to them that I’m doing this purely as an individual, that I’m answering to my own authority, and that I’m doing this out of my own volition.
There has been regular coverage over the years of these kinds of NYC crime-fighters, including for example a 2007 Nightline piece. But we can never get enough, especially during the holiday season, of these real-life “Kick-Ass-ers.“
