Sasha Frere-Jones joined The New Yorker when he was in his mid-30s. After 11 years of service, he hints that age (and associated responsibilities) had a fair bit to do with his decision to move over to start-up Genius as executive editor, starting this week:
From Ravi Somaiya and Ben Sisario‘s New York Times report:
“I’ll be honest,” Frere-Jones said. “I don’t want to stay up until 4 a.m. anymore at shows, and you can annotate lyrics during the day.”
For that job of annotating lyrics, Frere-Jones says he plans to hire a team of three to four individuals with solid journalism skills.
