New York Times executive editor Bill Keller just announced the appointment of a new restaurant critic to take up the departed Frank Bruni’s knife and fork. Come October, Culture Editor Sam Sifton will be taking over the post abandoned by Bruni in May.
“In the weeks since the announcement that Frank Bruni would be hanging up his napkin, we’ve received numerous applications for the job of NYT restaurant critic,” Keller said in his memo to the Times staff. “We narrowed the list, and then narrowed it some more. We had some really impressive candidates, writers who know their food and have interesting things to say about the way we eat. Then we threw out the list and drafted Sam Sifton. The choice is both obvious and eccentric.”
Now, the Times is on the hunt for a new culture editor to replace Sifton. So, get to work on your resume!
