Sac Bee Votes To Accept Pay Cuts

The Sacramento Bee‘s newsroom and advertising employees voted 65% in favor to accept a 6 percent wage cut Friday, a contract the paper’s management says saves jobs.

Without the pay cuts, 53 newsroom and advertising workers, out of the Bee‘s 1,126 employees, would have been laid off. With the cuts, the management will lay off only 34.

According to the Bee itself:

Linda Brooks, the newspaper’s vice president for human resources, said the Guild’s vote “literally saved jobs.”
