Rick Levine Says Apple is Hurting Tablet Market

Rick Levine, Director of Editorial Operations for Condé Nast, told people at some tiny festival called South by Southwest that Apple is the biggest obstacle in the way of magazines succeeding in the tablet market.

He told WWD that subscriptions are needed, but that Apple’s demands are simply too great. “We frankly don’t want Apple to have a stranglehold on this business,” explained Levine.

Unfortunately, it’s going to be tough to overcome the Dark Lord Apple. People love the iPad, not any of the Android tablets that are out there.

It puts publishing houses in a very difficult place, one that might see them eventually bowing to Apple’s standards.
