RD Recap: National Journal Gets a New EIC; A Daily News Vet Leaves

The latest media hirings and firings.

National Journal hands its top editing job to Stephen G. Smith. He has been editor of The Washington Examiner, U.S. News & World Report, Time and Newsweek and served as editor at National Journal between 1996 and 1998 when, of course, the magazine was a print product. He returns to steer the new digital ship into the future. Ben Pershing, who had been editor of National Journal Daily, gets a bump to managing editor. “Steve Smith was the editor of National Journal when I bought the magazine 18 years ago,” Atlantic Media chairman David Bradley said in a statement.
