Rachel Smolkin is leaving her spot as Politico’s managing editor for news to join CNN as its executive editor for politics. Smolkin had been with Politico since 2011. She previously worked for USA Today and American Journalism Review.
“Rachel will spearhead a new effort to create a digital product in Washington to provide our audiences with more news, more context and more insight about politics than ever before,” wrote CNN’s senior VP, Andrew Morse, in a memo to staffers. “She will work closely with Sam Feist and all of our teams in the DC Bureau to harness the very best reporting from our anchors, programs, reporters and producers.”
Smolkin will join CNN this week.
