Prop 16 Goes Down, But It Was Close

Capitol Weekly is reporting that after a sleepless night of closeness, Prop 16 is, mercifully, going to fail. Late night tallies from LA and San Francisco put the measure behind 47.5 percent to 52.5 percent, with 99 percent of 23,000 precincts reporting.

Opponents of Prop 16 are breathing sighs of relief, but the closeness of the vote is truly terrifying if you think about it. This was a measure literally sponsored by one entity, PG&E, who spent $46 million trying to sway voters to adopt a measure that would exclusively benefit them.
