Press Democrat Facing Layoffs, Pay Cuts

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat has been told by its owner —who is, though far removed, the New York Times—that it must reduce payroll costs by 10 percent. How it does that is up to the PD.

Some of the 325 employees of the Press Democrat will see a pay cut: 5 percent for managers, on top of a 2.5 percent cut in March. Nonunion employees will see a 3 percent cut, and the union employees will likely see something similar.
