A New York Recording Studio Born in 1976

From a Con Edison power plant, to the Power Station, to Avatar Studios, to TBD.

It’s not every article that can lead with the titles of iconic rock albums:

“Like a Virgin.” “Born in the U.S.A.” “Tattoo You.” Clapton’s “Unplugged.”

From there, NYT Metro writer Matthew Chaban’s look at the history of the Power Station, a recording studio fashioned out of an old Con Edison power plant, hits all the right notes. Now known as Avatar Studios, the building on 53rd Street is for sale.

While the owners told the writer they want to pass on the property to someone willing to continue the location’s studio heritage, there’s always the possibility that no such acceptable offer will be presented.
