Politico Severs Contract With Julia Ioffe After Trump Tweet

"Gratuitous opinion has no place, anywhere, at any time – not on your Facebook feed, your Twitter feed or any place else."

Julia Ioffe, a contributor to Politico, had her contract cut short after she tweeted about Donald Trump giving Ivanka Trump the White House office reserved for the First Lady.

Wednesday afternoon, Ioffe tweeted “Either Trump is fucking his daughter or he’s shirking nepotism laws. Which is worse?” and then deleted it. The damage, of course, had already been done.

In a memo to staffers obtained by Poynter, Politico’s editor in chief John Harris and editor Carrie Budoff Brown addressed the situation.
