Philly Newspaper Guild Approves New Contract

The guild representing newsroom employees at the Philadelphia Inquirer voted to approve a new contract that requires the equivalent of a 6 percent wage cut, the Inquirer reports.

The guild represents 515 newsroom employees and takes effect when the Inquirer’s new owner takes control of the company.

The new owner, Philadelphia Media Network, is allowed to walk away from the sale if it cannot reach agreements with 14 unions before August 31; at least four unions have no agreements yet.
