Oscar Ratings Up Despite Beige Show

Last night’s Oscar telecast reminded this Fishie of a bowl of oatmeal–warm, bland, inoffensive and rather dull– but people watched it.

The LA Times has the numbers:

The telecast, which awarded best picture to “The Artist,” delivered a 25.5 household rating/38 share in 56 top U.S. markets, according to Nielsen. That was up 4% compared with last year (24.5 rating/37 share).

The top five markets were New York (36.9 rating), Chicago (33.8), West Palm Beach, Fla., (32.5), Los Angeles (31.9) and Boston (31.9).

Wonder what drew everybody in? Billy Crystal is a big name, but not with the under-30 set. This Fishie’s girlfriend didn’t even know he was Jewish. She figured it out, though, somewhere between the second and third Bar Mitzvah joke.

Anyway, you know things are bad when reviewers mention a macaroni and cheese ad as among the highlights of the night.
