NY Times Public Editor Margaret Sullivan to Leave Paper
All good things must come to an end.
Well this sucks. Margaret Sullivan, who has served wonderfully as The New York Times public editor for the past four years, has decided to move on.
According to Politico, Sullivan will leave the Times in August 2016, when her contract expires. The fact that she stayed on this long is impressive, as previous public editors typically left the Times after a couple years.
In an email to Poynter, Sullivan said the time was right. “The role really requires an outsider’s perspective, so I’ve thought all along that having a clear time limit serves the Times and its readers best.”
The Times is currently searching for Sullivan’s successor.
