The New York Times has named Ian Fisher its Jerusalem bureau chief. Fisher most recently oversaw the Times’ weekend editions.
Fisher has been with the Times since 1990. He previously served as a Metro reporter, East Africa bureau chief, Rome bureau chief and more.
“It really is a big break for the desk, the newsroom, and all our readers that we have someone with Ian’s breadth of experience as an editor and correspondent jumping in to what is certain to be another tumultuous year in the region,” wrote Times deputy international editors Michael Slackman, Jodi Rudoren and Greg Winter, in a memo.
